An Easy Hike on the Quaking Bog Trail – Ivanhoe Lake Provincial Park

On my way to the Quaking Bog Trail, I stopped at Ivanhoe Lake to stretch my legs and enjoy the amazing view. The lake was beautiful and clear, with a cool wind whipping up the water’s surface. After dipping my fingers in the shallows – it was cold! Pretty soon, I headed out to hike the bog trail.

The Quaking Bog Trail

The Quaking Bog Trail at Ivanhoe Lake Provincial Park was muddy from rain but had mostly dried up.

The plant life was so vibrant and colourful from all the moisture.

My boots were still damp from a downpour the day before, so my sneakers saw some action. The trail was rated easy to moderate, so I could go without my ankle-supporting hiking boots.

There were some small ups and downs (none that required bum scooting) and a short boardwalk to cross a stream as the trail circled the Quaking Bog.

Birdsongs echoed through the forest, and every once in a while, I’d catch sight of a few birds!

Towards the trail’s end, a short boardwalk led to a viewing platform over the bog. Sedge grass and other vegetation had grown across the bog’s surface. I stared intently but I didn’t detect any movement; there was no quaking that I could see!

After one last look over the grassy-looking bog, I turned back towards the trailhead – and the next adventure, which happened to be a meal break at an island picnic area.
