Le Voyageur Inn and Award-Winning Thai Restaurant
I have stayed at least once a year at Le Voyageur Inn ever since 2021, when I took my first road trip to Northeastern Ontario. Now, I make a point of adding one night at the Inn anytime I can and eating at the Voyageur’s Restaurant every chance I get.
I also tried the Thai Chicken Wrap, which was delicious and the perfect compliment to complete my mostly appetizer meal.
I always order Mango Salad. Depending on my mood, I go for a spice level of 4 to 6 out of 10.
So far, I’ve tried most of the appetizers: Spring Rolls, Crab Rangoon, Golden Triangles (n/available), Chicken Thai Bites
Recently, Fried Calamari and Shrimp Rolls – the latter of which was surprisingly delightful! The marinated shrimp wrapped in egg roll pastry and deep-fried was so tasty and flavourful that I could have sworn the rolls were stuffed with more than ‘just’ shrimp.
I’ve tried two of their soups, Thom Yun Soup and the Voyageur Soup. I love their apps, which means I’m getting full on various nibbles, flavours and textures – then I can’t even think of getting a main.
On my last stay at the Inn, Mike, my husband, came with me; between us, we tried four appetizers, one salad, and one soup.
We skipped entrees and went straight to desserts. Mike ordered the toffee cake with ice cream and caramel, and I had the cheesecake carrot cake topped with caramel sauce.
We promised to return the next night and only order the mains.
The next day, we went out for lunch at Myrt’s Family Restaurant, so when dinnertime came around, we only had room for (takeout) Voyageur Soup, Garlic Cheese Bread and Jalapeno Poppers.
The Voyageur Soup was so good. A hearty chicken broth, thick with collagen, shredded chicken, vegetables, egg ribbons and the perfect level of spice (4/10) for us to share.
Mike fell in love with this restaurant, and he’d love it if I planned an annual trip to Mattawa to stay at the Voyageur Inn and eat some entrees! He is so sad he didn’t get to try their Pad Thai!
Just in case you’re wondering, I ordered the Voyageur’s Restaurant’s burger once because you know how much I love them. It was tasty and a welcome meal to store in the mini-fridge for consumption later.
However, the authentic Thai food is the best I’ve ever had (in my limited experience), so I’m slowly eating my way through the menu.
I can say, with confidence, that unless there’s a new Thai appetizer on the menu the next time I visit, I will order my usual Mango Salad and *finally* try one of their mains!
